Artist Statement
As a psychotherapist and spiritual seeker, I am profoundly invested in inner work. I value introspective practices that promote psycho-spiritual growth for myself and others. My art is an integral part of this path, because it has been a continuous practice of soul searching and following my intuition.
In my photography practice, I search for beauty in the mundane, meaningful symbols, and my human connection to the natural world. In this way I can find healing perspectives through my camera lens as well as my mind’s eye.
In my abstract painting practice, I work with themes of rupture and repair, spontaneous gestures, and play. In psychology, these themes are known to strengthen relationships. In painting, I use these practices to strengthen my relationship with the spiritual world; I do that by painting what moves through me intuitively and unconsciously. It feels liberating and fun!
For many years, I made art primarily for my own enjoyment and transformation. Recently, I decided that it is time to invite you all along for a shared journey. My creative practices intend to foster opportunities for connection, reflection, and healing for anyone who resonates with my work—a space where we can all encounter parts of ourselves in new and meaningful ways. With each piece of art that I create, I find a little piece of my soul and add it to a larger mosaic of spiritual wholeness. I hope others are able to see pieces of my soul, and pieces of their own, in my work.

Artist Bio
Jess is a queer, nonbinary artist and practicing therapist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They earned their Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Westminster University in 2023 and are dedicated to supporting others on their healing journeys. Their artistic and therapeutic practices are intertwined, reflecting a profound commitment to psychological growth.
Jess’s work is also highly influenced by years of spiritual practice. They have cultivated a dedicated yoga practice since 2009 primarily rooted in the Ashtanga lineage, explored Zen Buddhism with the Kwan Um School of Zen, and are currently on a path of healing and learning within the Shipibo-Konibo lineage of the Peruvian Amazon—a spiritual tradition that resonates with them deeply. These practices bring a sense of depth, introspection, and connection to their art.
Growing up with deaf parents, Jess developed a unique sensitivity to visual perception and visual expression. Naturally, this upbringing shaped their proclivity for communication through photography and painting. Their art invites viewers into a shared journey of self-discovery and connection, celebrating the intersections of the personal and the universal.
When they’re not creating or working with clients, Jess enjoys cooking and savoring delicious meals, reading, and outdoor adventures with friends—these experiences feed Jess’s inspiration and connection to life.
